Babywearing in winter: warm, safe and close
The days are getting shorter. Leaves turn golden and fall quietly to the ground, and the first frost sparkles on the grass in the morning.
Even so, you do not want to miss walks, errands or small everyday adventures. Autumn and winter are full of special moments: craft afternoons, lantern walks, collecting chestnuts and building the first snowman.
While your baby rests safely and warmly against your body, your hands remain free for everyday life and shared memories.
How should I dress my baby in a carrier or wrap during winter?
You can dress much as you normally would. Avoid thick scarves directly around your neck because they can get in the way and, in the worst case, restrict your baby's airflow. A cosy turtleneck is a better choice.
Your baby should wear breathable, temperature-regulating clothing, such as:
- softshell overalls
- fleece overalls
- wool or wool-silk overalls
Your baby should stay warm while still being able to move freely.
Anything outside the carrier needs extra protection, especially:
- booties or thick socks
- leg warmers
- a hat or balaclava for the head and ears
Several thin, breathable layers are usually more comfortable than one bulky snowsuit. They also help the carrier or wrap fit correctly. We therefore advise against thick ski suits or snowsuits inside the carrier.
Reminder: Always make sure your baby has a clear airway. In winter, a baby can easily disappear too far under a jacket. Baby skin is also delicate, so protect it from drying out.
Babywearing sweater, jacket or cover?
